I am not a business owner (yet) and there are a ton of questions that I'm sure all of us have. Let's start with the basics.

What is your business / business idea?

I'm a web designer, specializing in creating custom web sites for small business owners. I especially love working with other mompreneurs :) there's a good connection there, because I am one, too, LOL.

I could be biased, but I always feel it's important to have a well designed and user friendly web site if you are trying to get your business off the ground - especially in today's times. If I'm considering buying a product or service from a company, 9 times out of 10 I'll get it from the person who has a web site vs one who doesn't... or from one with a better designed and more informative site than one with a poorly designed, difficult to navigate web site.

I started my company, iDesign Studios - http://www.idesignstudios - back in 2001, but am finally working on pursuing the business more this year. I hope you'll take a look! (I also blog on issues relating to web design and small business here, too)

I have two business with are inter-connected. The first is Iowa Avenue, a dynamic healthy-living social community connecting people in a meaningful way for a meaningful purpose. It's about health, fitness, and weight loss, with a little fun thrown in for good measure.

The second is Weight1Minute, an online weight management software program, which is going through a few upgrades as we speak.

It's hard balancing everything, but it's also challenging, and personally, I love a good challenge.

My business idea is to offer consulting to tired parents pertaining to their child's sleep. I believe healthy sleep habits are best formed when a child is relatively young. You see all the commercials for prescription drugs these days to help adults sleep and I think those problems start young. Inadequate sleep has been shown to lead to behavior problems, obesity and other health problems, so I think it's more important than people want to think. I also personally think that adequate sleep leads to happier babies and happier parents! So, I am starting to offer my consulting services via email, private chat and telephone to help other tired parents. Basically, parents can pick my brain, thus the name of my site Pick Nick's Brain.

BTW, our very own Selene M. Bowlby, above, designed my site! ;)

I invented a product called the Dose Keeper out of an almost tragic event with my 2 year old daughter. After being up one night last year monitoring my 2 year old's fever, sleep deprivation clouded my judgement as to when I needed to give her the next Motrin dose. So I thought I had given her back to back medication. However, after speaking with Poison control they determined I had been second guessing myself but they were quick to inform me I was lucky and that over 57,000 accidental overdoses occure every year in children! With lack of sleep, daycare and today's hectic world I invented the Dose Keeper which helps monitor your child's last medication dose. It goes wherever your medicine bottle goes. I am humbled that the Dose Keeper won many awards and has been raved by pediatricians, ER doctors and Daycare facilities. :) I also go out into the community and donate them to low income families, because eventhough its only $5, $5 can make a different in an underpriviledge family. I also offer free workshops on proper medication dosing. Please visit www.dosekeeper.com t find out hw you can help us spread the word on National Safety Dose Awareness Day.

I am founder and owner of the girl site - Girl Evolution(www.GirlEvolution.com). I started Girl Evolution because I wanted to promote positive self esteem, self acceptance, self image and self awareness in girls and young women. The girls of today really need to learn to be comfortable with themselves and its really hard to do that when the media portrays something different.

Girl Evolution™ Promotes Positive Self Image, Self Acceptance & Self Esteem in Girls & Young Women™ through articles, booklets, ebooks, an online community, activities and inspiration, etc. I also provide writing exercises to free your inner expressions, tips of the week, fab finds and a girl shop.

Awesome stuff! I worked for the Girl Scouts for 18 months when I lived in upstate NY and that was a big push for us as well. Your site is awesome!

So I finally have my concept rolling. I'm going to have a personalized / custom built scrapbooking business. This is something I've been doing for friends for a while now, but it's time to make it official. It's very scary getting ready to take this plunge, and there are so many things I have to do (why can't there be 26 hours in the day?) and I have a lot to learn. But I'm excited because I'm finally starting!

Hi,
I am the founder of Kidfavors.com, which is exactly what it sounds like. I sell unique kids party favors. I sell personalized favors and unique favors that I put together on my own. I have tried very hard to keep costs affordable to all. I am enjoying being home with my kids and having the ability to keep my brains working all the time.

Hi! I am the owner of Baby Candy (www.BabyCandyStore.com), infant and toddler tees wrapped like candy and sealed with a nutrition label. I launched just over a year ago and it has been a crazy ride. My background is marketing and advertising, as I still do consulting work for large national brands.

I am also starting a co-op of Colorado businesses who offer products for parents and kids. If you have a business in Colorado, visit www.CongratsFromColorado.com. I have a passion for helping local moms marketing their growing companies.

Hi to all...I am co-owner of a company called Dainty Divas...www.daintydivas.com, We specialize in girls boutique hair accessories. The hair accessories are all hand made and most of them are interchangeable to maximize their use!
I also own an interior design business which is mainly what I do. However, I am finding that there is a large desire for our product (dainty divas) locally and we have some accounts out of state and have actually just been contacted by a store in Australia. I find the hardest thing is allowing the business to grow from the small stages to the next level. Any advice on this anyone???
It is scary to make that leap. I love to hear what other moms have to say and I love that we can all pool together to help each other out.
