I know as a writer I have funny little quirks to my creative process. Some are directly linked to pumping out the words and others are strictly behind the scenes. My biggest quirk that I can't seem to overcome is that my first inking must always be in a spiral binder. My husband laughs at me because I always have a binder with me and I have different colour pens. I always write my first draft like that. I have tried to start from scratch on the computer but it is a huge struggle. I rewrite and do all the rest just fine on the computer. I have made peice with the fact this is just me and one of my quirky ways.
What's your quirk and are you at peice with it?
I just kind of start typing a stream of consciousness pile of doodoo until something about it pops out at me. Then I start over with that as the focus.
Oh yeah, and I usually also go all over the place (guess you figured that since I talked about "doodoo" in last comment) and write about what's making me happy, bugging me, etc. at that exact time.
I write bulleted lists. Seriously. For the whole story. For a scene. For some dialogue. For just about anything. And then I need to "sit" with it for a week before writing. It's something about percolating the idea that makes it better. Or I like to think it does.
And a hot cup of espresso next to me doesn't hurt either. ;-)
Writing is like physical exercise. Sometimes you just have to gut it out. There are some mornings, I can roll out of bed, lace up the sneakers and run five miles without giving my feet, legs or lungs a second thought. Other mornings, I count every footstep. The same with writing. Some days the words just don't flow, but that doesn't mean you can quit. You just have to work at it a bit harder.
How do you ladies feel about Susan Boyle? I find her to be such an inspiration... Are any of you going to watch the TV Guide Network's documentary that's airing on the 13th? I saw the sneak peek for it today and can’t wait.
Here it is for anyone wh…
