Hi Dorothy,

Good for you! I hope you get the job. Along with writing, I teach ESL to adults - it is great fun and it provides me with a stable income that writing, so far does not. My goal is to eventually do a little less teaching - I currently teach 28 hours a week and a little more writing. I have been working on a Peace Studies book for the last 2 years with a professor from the University of Maryland and I am finding it takes sooo long to get a book published. My other goal is to start writing for magazines, but I haven't received any nibles yet on my query letters. What kind of writing do you do?

Hi Rebecca,
I am so grateful of your mention of ed2go just filled out their application to teach! This is what I have been praying for. I have so much to give the world - this is definitely one way to do it.

If you want to learn more about writing children's stories, or writing in general for that matter, I suggest taking an on-line writing course through www.ed2go.com I took a course called How to Write Your Life Story back in 1993 and then last year I took The Craft of Magazine Writing. The teacher for both classes was Eva Shaw and they were excellent classes. The first classs helped me get my freelance writing business started. Anyway, ed2go is inexpensive, the classes are doable time wise, 12 weeks I think and if you find a college that they are affiliated with on thier website, you can take the class at a discounted rate.

I hope that helps Sekrette.

Hi Moms,
I'm a Early Ed teacher with a Reading degree, and I too am burnt out but still yearn to service young children and their families. I love children's books and have read dozens of them I even have a library of used books that I tutor with, but I would really like to learn how to write a series of children's books and find an illustrator. If anyone has any advice please share.

Hi Ladies,

It's nice to be a part of such an interesting group of women. You're inspiring!

I've written a series of books called 1-2-3...Get Organized - for the organizationally overwhelmed. Each book addresses only one area of organizing your time, home, office, and more. They are short, colorful and fun - to give you the courage to tackle one area.

I also write a daily blog comprised of organizational tips.

My most requested topic is "How to organize your husband." I'm considering it. LOL

Hi Maachan Mama,

Good for you for considering writing for kids! I took two writing classes:"Write your Life Story" and "The Craft of Magazine Writing on Ed2go.com. I checked on their website and they offer a class called "Writing For Children", that might help you figure out how to approach writing for children. The 2 classes I took were great and they helped me launch my freelance writing career. I have written newsletters, newspaper articles and now I am trying to branch out into writing for magazines.

Good luck. Keep us posted.

Hi all, I'm new to HybridMom and just joined this group. I have a degree in elementary ed, burnt out of teaching, sold my soul to the IT gods, but now I'm inspired to write for kids. I have some ideas from my own experiences being a mom, particularly a working mom. I'm interested in hearing about approaches to writing kids books and steps to getting published. Pit-falls, must-dos, and any other words of wisdom!
