Over the past decade as a writer for Woman's World Magazine, First and Chicken Soup for the Soul, I’ve helped numerous families share their stories and touch other peoples’ lives.
In 2005, I decided to change careers. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do but since my passion is helping people share their stories, I hoped it would continue in that direction. Meanwhile, as an avid shutterbug I delved into photography and Photoshop. I loved playing with my photos in Photoshop, so much so I began scanning my family photos. To my horror I realized even though my photographs were safely tucked in photo albums they were discoloring, fading and collecting dust. Preserving our photos became a mission
I applied my Photoshop expertise to my scanned images and got fabulous results. After I enhanced our photos I digitized them to DVD and shared them with my family. Watching our two children relive their childhood memories was fun! When my father-in-law asked me to convert his 35mm slides to DVD, it was an important project, my mother-in-law, Evelyn, had passed, like most mothers she was the heart of the family. As I scanned decades of those old slides - seeing Evelyn as a new mom, watching her sons grow, marry, and have children of their own, I thought what a perfect way to keep her legacy alive. Photographs are a powerful medium: they allow to see our past; to see our ourselves at all ages, and they help us share our joy and bring us together. And from there, my scanning service - PicturePerfectScans was born.
From one mom to another, my words of wisdom are:
Do your best and follow your heart.
What makes you hybrid?
I've always been hybrid but since I raised my children, now 36 and 31, in a different era I didn't know it. As a wife and mom I raised my family, refurbished our home, waited tables and attended college part time.
Today, after a freelance writing career I'm getting my scanning service off the ground, and watch my adorable 1 year-old grandson twice a week. Both fun endeavors!
