Do you have your own business? Do you have tips and advice to share with others? Or, do you need a little advice of your own? Then this group is for you!
I am the Mother of Tori (12) and Logan (6) and have been working on my PhD in entrepreneurship since I was 14 or so that is how I view the dozen or so businesses that I have been involved in over the passed 15+ years. My daughter Tori is an absolute miracle because she was diagnosed with hemiplegic cerebral palsy when she was two years old. She has overcame every obstacle and today is a fully functioning pre-teen. She alone is inspiring to me! My son Logan is an awesome vibrant little boy that has been labeled with ADHD which we are working with everyday. I do not consider medicating him an option and I am constantly pursuing other answers to help him.
My current businesses include a successful tax preparation and bookkeeping company which has been in business since 1999. This was a venture that I began while obtaining my accounting degree and found that I was very interested in tax law. I began preparing tax returns for all of my classmates and family while I was in college. I began college because of the tragic death of my fiance when my daughter was just 18 months old and I realized that I was solely now responsible for her & I. While in college, I pursued an accounting position at the University that I was attending and worked my way into a good position that provided benefits and a secure income for us. While in that position, I ended up becoming the budget director for some rather large construction projects. Unexpectedly, I ended up managing and monitoring these projects rather closely and became very interested in the construction field. I enjoyed the times that I needed to be on the site and outdoors more than I expected. This all led to my next venture which was studying horticulture and landscaping and learning how to operate equipment. This resulted in the creation of another business in 2004 which consisted of a bulk material supply yard & garden center. That company slowly emerged into a full service landscaping company and incorporated into a full service land care (earthwork, environmental, landscaping) company in 2007. I quit my full time job at the University in 2003 after my husband and I had our son to pursue these businesses full time. I have also participated in a few other ventures along the way. We are currently also partnering in a real estate investment company and managing a non-profit for children to teach them about the environment and outdoor recreation. I have in the development stages another non-profit that will build affordable sustainable housing for low income families.
I truly love everything that I do. I have learned so much along the way and I love to help others also start their own companies. I think that I knew at a very young age that I was born to be an entrepreneur. I am hoping somewhere in the future I will have the opportunity to help other women pursue their dreams as well.
From one mom to another, my words of wisdom are:
Dream big! Trust in the Lord always!!
What makes you hybrid?
I love that title "Hybrid"! I never really thought of myself that way until I picked up the magazine off of the shelf one day. I just always thought that I was a little crazy!
