While there are many trends to discuss this year, what makes the top of the trend list will be the price! The Toy Insider list that’s posted here does not have a single toy over $100….and many are under $30. As parents, we will not disappoint our kids for the holidays. There’s nothing better than the excitement when our children are ripping open their gifts. I remember when my oldest (now 19) was little….every time she opened a gift she would say “I always wanted this my whole life”, and my husb…

Embracing our new world!!
As a mom of three teenage girls, I have my own internal battle with the technology that fills our kids lives. On one hand….it’s amazing!! Our connections to each other, how our kids do homework and stay in touch, the information that comes to us at an astounding speed by a few key strokes. This is what our children are growing up with! But for many, this new world leaves much to be desired. I love when my entire family eats together (rare…rarer now that my oldest is in…

In 7 days ( the number of completion) we will; GOD WILLING, live to see the first AFRICAN-AMERICAN PRESIDENT INAUGURATED into the most powerful office in the WORLD!! Good, Bad, or otherwise, this country is a SUPER-NATION of haves and have-nots, filled with days and nights of miracles and mishaps. Yes, I feel a bit sympathetic and its weird, the same country that enslaved my ancestors has caused its children to rise like Phoenix's and become everything that our past forfeited on, and it feels SU…

I have been working very hard to stop talking about POLITICS in the last 48 hours, but as soon as I found out that HIL and BILL may have new access to the White House, I got my knickers in a BUNCH!! There is something about this probability that gives me the heebie-geebies while tingling with joy!! I am a Comedienne for God's sake, can't you just smell the FODDER oozing from this combination? While, I have always believed that she is intelligent and can easily run circles around many of the "old…

It's 13 days post-election and I am finally convinced that Senator Barack Obama is truly our 44th President. Somewhere inside of me, I felt like a cruel joke had taken place and we would awake to a Gore-esque defeat, you know the kind that says, "You won the popular vote
and Florida-oops not Florida" and we would all be making plans to move to Canada. Now that President-Elect Barack Obama has resigned his Senate seat as of Sunday, November 16, 2008; it's Official to ME!! Because, a brothe…

Well believe it or not, it is that time of year—the
Fruits & Veggies—More Matters® Month. Really, there is a month long event, of sorts, dedicated to adding just one more fruit or vegetable to your family’s diet. It is a noble cause; many children (and adults) don’t get close to getting their suggested daily intake of fruits and vegetables. The USDA recommends 5 servings. Some new research state we should get more like 9 servings. However, the average child is getting more like 2-3 se…

So, we’re finally moving. The big day has arrived. As I pack, paint, and dream about life in a larger, newer, safer, nicer, fresher and more open house I reach for something that has fallen behind the bookcase.
And I touch…
Cat vomit.
Now, I realize that you find strange and sundry things when you move. A stray sock here, an old wrapper there, a toy, a broken remote. But cat vomit. Behind a bookcase. A bookcase that to my knowledge has never been away from the wall.
OK, I love my cats. I real…

Ah, the lives we lead.
Do you ever wake up and wonder where you are? Not in a bad way, but in a weird dream-induced coma kinda way that makes you lay there for a few minutes. In wonder. In a calm sense of joy.
Then the cat jumps on your very full bladder, and you feel like you’re gonna explode with pee. Then as he nimbly leaps away, his claws dig cruelly into your belly and all bets are off. The day takes a tumble for the chasm looming below normal life. And you start to almost enjoy wallowing…

So, I have been told I confuse people. I sometimes feel like I’m a little Donny and a little Marie.
I turn off the water while I brush my teeth. I recycle pretty much everything, and even bring scraps of paper home from work to recycle. I compost. I buy
organic. I would love to have the money to own a Prius. I support the Democratic Party but believe they have gone too mainstream, too center. I am not that politically active, but I hav…

Violence to a child is still violence. And it sucks.
I know I have spent a long blog post on this topic already, but it pisses me off and breaks my heart at the same time. Here goes…
A woman in our play group was going on about how appalled she was about something that happened to her friend the other day. Not realizing which party in the story was her friend I was at first confused, and then put my size ten foot in my mouth. Then I thought better of it…

I started training again, marathon training that is. It was a tough decision. I was getting used to having more time at home to chill out after ten days skipped. But I went the other day, and then again today. Beat the heat and got my butt out there before sun-up.
And then, second day back, I saw tracks. Uh, huh. Tracks. Not little bunny rabbit tracks. No, the maker of these tracks would have had that…

Have you ever noticed how grocery stores are set up? The good, healthy (and usually more expensive items per calorie) are on the outside of the store. Fancy end cap displays that draw you into the center of the store tend to pull you toward the sweet, high-calorie, SALE items sure to cause sugar-addiction and bad eating habits.
Seriously though. I live in an area where we have several communities that traditionally are lower-income groups, with greater health problems.
Less money = less nutr…

Through the years there have been charismatic leaders who have stood out for the good (Jesus, Ghandi, JFK, Martin Luther King, Mother Theresa) and the bad (Hitler, Fidel Castro, Charles Manson). There have been others who I believe have touched on this pedestal, but never quite made it to the top (Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan). To be in the presence of one with such charisma, such a magnetic pull is, and would be breathtaking, irresistible.
Our country is fortunate enough to witness the emergenc…

So, I was from one of those "you will sit there until bedtime if you don't eat" upbringings. I'm not fat, but I soon learned that just shoving it all in even if I wasn't hungry made Mom and Dad infinitely happier than seeing me pouting at the table all night. From there comes my emotional eating that I have attempted to control my entire adult life.
I do blame that mindset, although not my parents who truly did what they thought was best at the time. This is obvious to me because my second sist…

I have to say that in light of the MSNBC story
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24878696/,
I am just sad.
I wrote a blog post about a week or so ago
