I'm a mom first. My son is about to turn 24 and will be coming home for the holidays. My step daughter is 8 and we have a very close and special bond. So much so that I have become very good friends with her mother as well and we will all go out for a girls night (me, Leah and Maddy) just for fun!
I want to be a good mother. I had a wonderful step mother who passed away a few years ago from cancer. She taught me so much about being a good step mother...and mom. My mom is a little frazzled and g…

Between my kids and all the toys I’m playing with lately…I’m not sure where to start…but ok, “tis the season” let’s talk toys.
First a note….I will talk about all toys that I like. I will let you know why I like them…why your kids will like them. I don’t get paid to discuss the items I choose. I am in the toy business so I see it all. For our Toy Insider magazine, our holiday guide that we publish for the holiday season (with a site online at

Halloween falls on a Saturday this year- what a bonus for working moms! No need to race home from work to take your children door to door. No need to feel guilty that you can't make it home until past dark. Halloween is on Saturday this year- what a wonderful thing! My son is of the age where he thinks it's hysterical to dress up like a cheerleader and actually convinced me to buy him the outfit. Pom poms and all. My daughter, on the other hand, had her mind set on being Hannah Montana which mea…

My grandmother was a breast cancer survivor. She had a mastectomy at a time when I was too young to even understand what that meant. I am now 38 and acutely aware of what it means as we honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month. My grandmother outlived her cancer, dying of natural causes, and I know many of you who are taking care of your elders or dear friends are praying for the same outcome.
Not too long ago we were introduced to a few remarkable women who created the TNBC foundation in honor of a…

I do hope you all enjoyed your Labor Day, a holiday that originated in Canada out of labor disputes in the 1870's... who knew? Funny how these disputes press on some 200 years later as I remind you of the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act recently passed by Obama.
Although, I can't say I was in much of a celebratory mood this Labor Day as I absorbed the news of the recent death of Ted Kennedy and a lesser known, DJ AM. Loved him or hated him as a politician, Ted Kennedy leaves behind five kids and a…

I wonder, is a vacation ever truly a vacation when you are a working mom? Or, a stay at home mom for that matter? There always seems to be time sensitive calls or emails that always arise as well as the constant need to check in. Today is my son's birthday and I "vacationed" at Six Flags Great Adventure. But, somewhere between "Scream Mountain" (yes I did go upside down and backwards with my nine year old by my side) and the water park, I felt the need to check the crackberry and mentally prepar…

I'm a whole lot better at mommy-hood with others by my side.
Others like you.
So here's what I'm thinking...
I mentioned before that I've been writing a book for moms. One of the things that inspired me to do this was the encouragement I saw among moms in the blogging world...
One mom would post about her child being sick, and she'd be flooded with words of hope and comfort. Another mom would post about the birth of her newest baby, and she'd be showered with congratulations.
I love when pe…

Recently, I submitted an article to Hybrid Mom for potential publication. I wasn't really expecting anything, but you never know, right? So I hit send and, admittedly, checked my email compulsively to see if it was going to be considered. Then I got an email from Jennifer James that it had been published. My first published work! I'm so pumped up about. I'd love to hear what you think about…

As many of you know, I'm a crafting nut. I love to cross stitch, scrapbook, quilting... whatever floats my boat for the day. Recently, I posted about a project that I'm working on. It's a
Harley Davidson Cross Stitch Project.
Are there any other crafters out there?? What is your bliss?

I tried to exercise while nursing. I really did. But my daughter and I kept this relationship going for over a year-and-a-half and frankly every attempt I made was thwarted with squirting milk and leak spots on my workout shirt. So I gave it up. Which is why I’m going after this marathon thing now.
But I’m thinking more about another milestone today, because today marks the anniversary of the surgery I had that ended the nursing relationship. And I must admit I am feeling a little blue.
I look…

A man came home from work and found his three children outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn all around the front yard.
The door of his wife's car was open, as was the front door to the house and there was no sign of the dog. Proceeding into the entry, he found an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, and the throw rug was wadded against one wall.
In the front room the TV was loudly blaring a Cartoon channel, and the family roo…

Sometimes no. I'm sure this statement will annoy a lot of moms, and I can't say what brought this thought on.
Recently I've been looking outside of my life's "box". Let's start with my partner. It's not uncommon for her to leave the house at 5:00 a.m. and not make it home until 8:30 or 9:00 p.m., check on the kids and give them kisses and hugs even though they're already sleeping.
A friend of mine is so committed to her career, and the people that she works with, that it's not uncommon for her…

It has been one long week! Without the energy or time for my favorite creative outlet....okay some may say creative, some may not. But in my opinion, my posts have GOT to be better then reading posts titled "what coffee are you addicted to today?" So work with me here since I'm an amateur. I, and hopefully you, need something a little more stimulating to read. I'm giving that my shot here. Okay, so I'm getting a little off track. Could it be because A-man is checking my heart beat with his steth…
