Hurricane Gustav...Shadows Over Baton Rouge Ten Days Post Storm

You may not realize that some of us who were blown away by hurricane Gustav are still living the in the aftermath, because Baton Rouge is not New Orleans. We don't have levees breaking, nor individuals on roofs waving for help. Why does it take such extremities to gain the attention of the media to simply recognize that fellow Americans are still in need of help and assistance?

As of this morning, 65% of Baton Rouge has energy. I am a part of the lucky 35% without electricity. But in all honesty, I am happy to have a home to go home to, because a few of my co-workers do not. Thanks to the many Water Oaks and other old trees in our area, they fell like towers upon 600+ homes...see for yourself.

My mother-in-law who is in her 70's had three trees fa ll, one of which on a portion of her house. Do you think FEMA is offering their assistance. NO. I have spent time posting requests on networking sites looking for groups o f kindhearted people who find reward in assisting the elderly. I was just able to get a tarp for her roof today, now I just need to find someone to put it on her roof to ensure she doesn't receive any damage in her attic or house.

The silver lining of the past week is that I had the chance to spend three days with my beautiful children and my grandparents. Although, not every minute was a ray of sunshine, it was ta moment in time that my grandparents will always hold dear to them. If the twins are lucky, they will have a snapshot of a memory of their time with them. We captured this adorable picture of the boys. Oh, how I love them!!
