Breast Cancer Awareness Month and The Women We Honor

My grandmother was a breast cancer survivor. She had a mastectomy at a time when I was too young to even understand what that meant. I am now 38 and acutely aware of what it means as we honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month. My grandmother outlived her cancer, dying of natural causes, and I know many of you who are taking care of your elders or dear friends are praying for the same outcome.

Not too long ago we were introduced to a few remarkable women who created the TNBC foundation in honor of a dear friend. Her name was Nancy Block-Zenna and she passed at age 37, just two and 1/2 years after being diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. The Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation aims to raise awareness and to support research in the area of this disease. I was told that it was Nancy's wish, as her own daughter Jolie grows up, that triple negative breast cancer will no longer threaten women as it does today. The money raised supports scientists and researchers in their effort to find the cause so that detection and diagnosis and eventual prevention are achieved.

Meet the Butterflies we honor this month, in Nancy's memory, as we applaud their efforts to save mothers, sisters, friends and even our daughters, one woman at a time. We had the privilege of sitting down with Allison and Andrea to learn more about the foundation and about "volunteerism" as a whole. Watch their video interview, share it with friends and family, as we continue to be strong and beat this all too familiar disease, breast cancer.

As we embrace the phrase "carpe diem" this month, we hope you'll join us for some inspiring, empowering and what may be, life changing offline events: Northern Virginia conference, hosted by Detours & OnRamps, for those who are trying to make work, work for their family. This November 4th event will provide you with solutions and resources. Mention Butterfly to save $25 off the price of admission. NJ Career Relaunch Forum, at Seton Hall University, South Orange. Butterflies receive a $30 discount with a mention of MyWorkButterfly.com. Get resources and strategies for a successful career relaunch and gain valuable contacts with local employers interested in talent on career break. Finally, join Terry and me for a night of Transformation at Dieci Lifestyle Spa in Livingston on October 22nd. Beauty, image, fashion, health and career experts will be on hand for a total makeover as you head to, or back, to work. Win a complete makeover by registering today.

Do something for others this month and do something for yourself. We, and they, deserve it.
